- Criminal Division
The criminal division is responsible for the prosecution of felony crimes committed by adults in Mohave County. The division consists of 17 attorneys, 1 investigator and 13 support staff. Typical cases handled by the division include murder, assault, drug sales, burglary, theft, kidnapping, rape and armed robbery. But prosecution doesn’t tell the full story about the Criminal Division. It also has established diversion programs to help rehabilitate people and a Bad Check Program to help merchants and individuals with bad checks.
The responsibilities of the prosecutors include:
- Consulting with police and other law enforcement agencies about legal questions that arise during the course of investigations;
- Reviewing all criminal cases presented by law enforcement agencies for possible charging;
- Preparing and filing criminal charges in district court, when the evidence warrants prosecution;
- Negotiating settlements in cases, when appropriate; and
- Trying cases in front of judges and juries.
- Consulting with police and other law enforcement agencies about legal questions that arise during the course of investigations;
Prosecutors work closely with the Victim/Witness Division who maintain contact with victims and witnesses and provide information about their roles and rights in the legal process
